Campground Review: Riverwalk RV Park, San Antonio, Texas

Introduction:

This commercial RV park doesn't look like much, but it has some really nice amenities, and it provides excellent access to downtown San Antonio.

Price per night / Discounts: $35 / Daily rate is $43. We stayed for a week, so we got the weekly rate of $36 per night. We also got 10% off with AAA. They offer a Good Sam discount as well.

Privacy Rating (how spacious and private do the sites feel):

2.5/5: Like most commercial RV parks, this one is basically a parking lot with RVs parked right next to one another. There was decent site separation, but no natural barriers. Our line of RV's also backed up to another RV park which we were separated from by a chain link fence. Across from us was some unused equipment and an RV that appeared to be parked there long term. It all felt kind of junky, to be honest.

Location Rating (accessibility to points of interest or to major highways):

5/5: This park was right off I-10 and very easy to get to. It is located right on the city bus line that goes downtown, so we were able to take public transportation to the main attractions, as well as to some other locales around the city. The neighborhoods near the park aren't that great, but you can find the necessities if you need them. The park was perfectly located for touring downtown for a couple days, but I wouldn't want to spend more than a couple days or a week there. (FYI, there are a couple other RV parks on the same road including a KOA. We didn't check them out, but they might be a bit nicer).

Site Quality and Big Rig Accessibility Rating (utilities and accessibility of campground hook ups):

4.5/5: Our full hook up site was easy to get into, level, and the utilities were well placed. The roads were in reasonably good condition and we had no problems getting in or out.

Technology and Customer Service Rating (online resources, reservations, and staff):

4/5: We had to call to make reservations, but their website had most of the information we needed, so that was good. Customer service was friendly and efficient. We had a couple packages shipped to us there and they had no problem taking custody of them and calling us when they arrived.

Internet Availability Rating (Verizon coverage or campground wifi):

5/5: They had strong, fast, wifi throughout the park, probably the best we've had thus far. Additionally, our Verizon service worked well.

Summary:

This campground wasn't much to look at. The landscaping could use some TLC, there is a lot of junk laying around the edges, the fences are chain link, etc. It didn't feel unsafe, but just kind of run down. That was in keeping with the entire neighborhood, which was mostly industrial and worn. However, the park made up for what it lacked in looks by providing excellent access to the city we were trying to visit. Having a bus stop right out front made our lives infinitely easier. We also appreciated the good customer service and strong, fast wifi. Overall, we would recommend this park if you're visiting San Antonio, as long as you appreciate that it is a commercial park where you're probably not going to want to spend a lot of time relaxing at your campsite.
